WACO, Texas (AP) _ J.J. Joe threw three touchdown passes to Melvin Bonner and Keith Caldwell returned an interception 42 yards for a score Saturday as Baylor rolled over Utah State 45-10 in a meeting of winless teams.

Baylor of the Southwest Conference is 1-2 while the Aggies of the Big West Conference dropped to 0-3. In the only previous meeting between the schools, Baylor defeated Utah State 24-9 in the 1961 Gotham Bowl.

With the field thermometer registering 104 degrees, the Bears quickly overwhelmed the western visitors.

Joe hit Bonner with scoring passes of 20, 37, and 51 yards as the Aggies got caught in man-for-man coverage and couldn’t stay up with the Bears speedy wide receiver.

Joe took Baylor on an 84-yard scoring drive on the Bears’ first possession to set the tone for the day. Bonner’s first scoring reception gave the Bears a quick 7-0 lead.

After a 29-yard field goal by Trey Weir, Caldwell picked off Greg Angelovic’s pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.

An interception by Shawn Cravens set up another touchdown pass by Joe, 37 yards to Bonner.

Robert Strait scored on a 2-yard run as Baylor built a 31-0 halftime lead before 28,737 fans.

In the third period, Baylor beat back an Aggies drive at the Bears 2-yard line, then went 98 yards for a touchdown with the payoff coming on a 51-yard Joe-to-Bonner connection.

Sophomore Bradford Lewis scored the first touchdown of his career on a 34- yard run in the fourth period for Baylor.

The Aggies avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter on a 44-yard field goal by Sean Jones and Anthony Calvillo’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Mike Lee.

Joe completed six of 10 passes for 175 yards and Bonner caught four passes for 124 yards.
