SLOUGH, England (AP) _ Police said Friday they have caught one of two defendants who escaped a day earlier when two masked gunmen burst into a courtroom and spirited them to freedom.

Ricky Loveridge, 22, was arrested late Thursday, about seven hours after he and 19-year-old Richard Hurley escaped the courtroom in Slough, west of London, police said. They said he has been charged and will soon reappear before magistrates.

Police have found a car they believe was used as the getaway vehicle, but Hurley and the armed men are still at large.

The two men were in court facing burglary charges when the unidentified armed men ran in. Several shots were fired during the getaway, and one of the men hit a police officer over the head with a gun butt.

A third defendant also appearing in court with the pair did not flee.
