4 found guilty in man’s death in drug deal-turned-shooting
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Four men have been found guilty in the killing of a man during a drug deal-turned-shooting in Florida.
The Tallahassee Democrat reports Page Briggs, Patrick Berrane, David Howard and Stanley West were found guilty Thursday of third-degree murder in Hoyt Birge’s 2017 death. They were also found guilty of offenses including two counts of false imprisonment. Vicki Strickland was found not guilty of accessory after the fact.
Birge had been called to sell prescription painkillers in May 2017. When Birge and his friend Peter Tournay arrived at a house in Tallahassee, they were ambushed by the four men. Prosecutors say Tournay submitted, but Birge fought back and was shot.
Birge’s body was placed in a vehicle and Tournay was taken to his mother’s house. Tournay ran inside and alerted authorities.
