Fun in the sun at Special Olympics
One word kept coming up on Saturday at Lee Barnes Stadium.
“It’s fun,” said Lake Havasu athlete Greg Blackman, who won gold in his heats of the 100-meter and 4x100-meter races.
A total of 55 athletes from Havasu and Kingman competed in the Special Olympics Arizona River Area track and field meet, positioning themselves for the state championships in Glendale from May 2-4. Every athlete got a medal at the event, and should they choose to, will move on to next month’s races, Saturday’s races serving to help seeding.
Events for swimming, softball and bocce are next on the schedule, set to be run from mid-June to October. Organizers said they are looking to for more young athletes that are available for the free events.
