Arkansas St. 76, Southwestern College 45
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) _ Arkansas State spread the ball among all 16 of its players as the Indians opened a 22-point halftime lead and went on to a 76-45 victory Wednesday night over Southwestern College.
After a closely played opening few minutes, Curtis Brown hit a three-pointer with 8:30 left in the first half to give Arkansas State a 20-12 lead against the NAIA Division II Moundbuilders (1-6).
From then until halftime, the Indians (2-0) outscored the Moundbuilders 18-4. Point guard Micah Marsh had five points, two steals and two assists to during the run.
Arkansas State built a 38-16 halftime lead into a 61-27 advantage at the midway mark of the second period, then inserted its third-string team, which widened the gap to 37 points with just over three minutes left.
Forward Freddy Hicks came off the bench and hit all six of his shots to lead Arkansas State with 12 points and eight rebounds. Brown added 11 points while making 3-of-6 three pointers.
All of the Indians took at least one shot, and 13 players scored.
Guard Donald Carter led Southwestern College with 12 points. Shawn Mount added 10 points.
