FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Tiger Woods has run into trouble in his attempt at a 16th major championship. In fact, he is closer to missing the cut than he is to leader Brooks Koepka (KEHP’-kuh) in the second round of the PGA Championship. Woods started the day at 2 over and has struggled to improve on that. Koepka, Woods’ playing partner, started the day at 7 under and birdied three of the first four holes to improve to minus 10.

UNDATED (AP) _ John Davidson has resigned as Columbus Blue Jackets president of hockey operations after the New York Rangers requested and received permission to talk to him for a similar position. He has been long considered the heir apparent to Glen Sather as Rangers president. Davidson spent parts of eight seasons as a Rangers goaltender and was a TV analyst for them for almost a full decade.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired journeyman catcher Erik Kratz in a trade with the San Francisco Giants. The 38-year-old was designated for assignment on Tuesday. As part of the trade, the Giants agreed to send the Rays $471,613 to cover a majority of the $877,419 remaining in Kratz’s $1.2 million, one-year contract. San Francisco will receive a player to be named or cash.

PARIS (AP) — John Isner (IHZ’-nur) has pulled out of the French Open because of an injured left foot, ending his streak of 24 consecutive appearances at Grand Slam tournaments. The 34-year-old announced his withdrawal today on Twitter. He is ranked No. 11, the top American man, but hasn’t competed since hurting his foot during the Miami Open final March 31. BALTIMORE (AP) — Maximum Security owner Gary West has issued a multimillion-dollar challenge to the owners of four horses that benefited from his horse’s disqualification in the Kentucky Derby. West says he’ll pay each of those owners $5 million apiece if Country House, War of Will, Long Range Toddy or Bodexpress finish ahead of Maximum Security in the next race against him through the end of the year. Maximum Security crossed the finish line first in the Derby on May 4 but was disqualified for interference. Country House was declared the winner.
