Dynamite Bomb Found at Building Owned by Aquino Family
MANILA, Philippines (AP) _ Police found 4.4 pounds of dynamite outside a suburban office building owned by the family of President Corazon Aquino following a bomb threat, a spokesman reported Monday.
Patrolman Celso Noriega said someone placed the dynamite beside the seven- story Cojuangco building in the Makati district Sunday evening.
A security guard, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a fuse to the dynamite appeared to have been lit, but went out. A police report said it had been defused when officers arrived.
The guard said a journalist had called and said he had received a message at his office that a bomb had been planted there. He did not identify the journalist.
The building, which was empty except for four guards, contains several business offices and the headquarters of the Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Foundation, an organization dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Aquino’s assassinated husband.
Mrs. Aquino had an office in the building before moving into the presidential guesthouse.
