Theresa man enters not guilty plea to 6th OWI charges
JUNEAU — A 52-year-old Theresa man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a charge of sixth offense of driving while intoxicated.
John W. Wulff appeared before Dodge County Court Judge Steven Bauer on Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint, a Dodge County Sheriff Office deputy saw a pickup truck driving unsafely close another vehicle on Highway 28 on July 7 at 10:40 p.m. The truck swerved to the left and turned south onto Mohawk Road.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop, and Wulff said that he had drank two whiskey-and-cokes. Wulff was asked what was in his mouth before doing a breathalyzer test, and he spit out a quarter.
The officer asked him if he had been chewing on it to beat the breathalyzer test. He said that was his plan.
However, the test resulted in a reading of a .176 blood alcohol level, above the .08 legal limit in Wisconsin.
Wulff had previously been convicted of OWI in 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
A telephone scheduling conference will occur on Jan. 11.
