AP-FBH--Texas High School Football Playoff Pairings,ADVISORY

November 8, 2018

Texas high school sports editors, writers and broadcasters:

We need significant help from you in publishing high school football playoff pairings for all six classifications, including six-man. In fact, the pairings are only as good as the member outlets make them.

The first set of pairings will be published Saturday, Nov. 10, as soon as we have a reasonably complete list, hopefully by early evening.

The email for sending the matchups is sdixon@ap.org.

For the first week of the playoffs, the most important information you can provide is the division, each’s team district and each team’s seeding for every game. Without that information, it’s difficult for us to figure out where to put the game in the paragraph form that follows the UIL brackets. Records are important also.

If a city/town has more than one stadium, we like to include the city name and stadium name. This goes for suburbs in the metro areas as well. In smaller towns with only one stadium that hosts playoff games, the town name is fine (just Sweetwater instead of Sweetwater’s Mustang Bowl).

Here are a few examples of how we would like to receive the matchups during the first week of the playoffs:

San Angelo Central (District 2 No. 1, 10-0) vs. EP Irvin (District 1 No. 2, 8-2), 7 p.m. Friday, San Angelo Stadium

Allen (District 6 No. 1, 10-0) vs. Euless Trinity (District 5 No. 2, 7-3) 2 p.m. Saturday, Arlington’s AT&T Stadium

Crane (District 2 No. 1, 8-2) vs. Shallowater (District 1 No. 2, 7-3), 7:30 p.m. Friday, Lamesa

With the UIL shifting to a system where higher-seeded teams host bidistrict games, many of your matchups might be listed in “at” form. That’s fine as long as each team has its district and seeding listed.

Please send matchups frequently. And please don’t expect us to find them on Twitter. Early in the playoffs, there are simply too many games.

Thanks in advance for your help.
