TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) _ A 64-year-old man was hurt after being run over by a van his dog had shifted into reverse, police said.

Rene Schatz of Filer was standing at the rear of the van he had left running on a Twin Falls street Friday when he was knocked down and run over.

Witnesses told police a small dog in the vehicle apparently knocked the shift mechanism and the van jerked into reverse.

Schatz's injuries included broken ribs. He was listed in fair condition Saturday at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.

After Schatz was struck, the van jumped a curb, hit a fence and came to rest on a lawn.
