Aiken’s Black History Parade set for Feb. 16; register by Feb. 1
Friday is the last day to register to participate in Aiken’s annual Black History Parade.
The Black Historical Committee of Aiken will host its 18th annual Black History Parade at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.
The deadline to register to participate in the parade is Friday. The entry fee is $20.
Registration forms can be picked up at Smith-Hazel Recreation Center, 400 Kershaw St., or Brothers and Sisters of Aiken, 132 York St., anytime after 2 p.m.
On parade day, line-up will begin at 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 212 on Florence Street. In case of inclement weather, the parade will be held Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
The Black Historical Committee of Aiken sponsors the parade every February during Black History Month.
This year’s parade theme is Days of the 1970s.
The parade route stretches east on Hampton Avenue from American Legion Post 212 at Florence Street to the Smith-Hazel Recreation Center on Kershaw Street.
In past years, parade entries have come from Aiken, Augusta, Williston and New Ellenton.
