Amateur Video Shows Concorde Crash

July 27, 2000

PARIS (AP) _ In a 15-second video, a Spanish truck driver’s wife captured the horrifying flight of Air France Concorde AF4590.

Filmed from a moving truck, the amateur footage shows the jet flying low above a highway busy with vehicles, an enormous trail of flame and smoke streaming from the fuselage.

The camera pans to the left and the truck’s driver in the next seat is caught in profile. Behind him through the window, the grainy, shaky picture shows bright, orange-and-white fire enveloping the left side of the plane.

By the time the plane, still flying level to the ground, disappears from the frame, the flames appear to have engulfed the rear end of the jet.

The video did not show the plane fall. But the footage jumps to a shot of a black mushroom cloud rising from a wheat field in the distance.

The husband-and-wife truck driving team were taking cargo from Germany to France when they filmed the video. Requesting anonymity, they sold the footage to Spain’s Antena 3, which passed on the international rights to Associated Press Television News.
