S.C. Sprinter Trammell Honored
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ South Carolina sprinter-hurdler Terrence Trammell was named the National Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field Coaches Association.
Trammell was selected by the NCAA Division I track and field coaches and the voting was ``not even close,″ the USTCA said.
Trammell was one of nine regional winners.
``When they were announcing the rest of the honorees, I was thinking, `Wow, there are a lot of topnotch athletes up here,‴ Trammell said. ``It could have gone to any of the athletes.″
Earlier this year, Trammell beat Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson in the 60 meters hurdles at the Millrose Games and the 2000 USA 60-meter champion Jon Drummond in the New Balance Invitational.
Two weeks ago, Trammell won the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles at the Southeastern Conference Indoor for the second year in a row.
Arkansas’ Lance Harter was named women’s coach of the year and Arkansas’ John McDonnell was named men’s coach of the year.
