Billy Smith Returns to Islanders
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) _ Hall of Fame goalie Billy Smith, who played 18 years with the New York Islanders, is returning to the team as goaltending coach.
Smith, the Islanders’ goaltending coach from 1989-1993, spent the past eight seasons as goaltending coach and assistant coach with the Florida Panthers.
His last season with the Islanders, 1992-93, was the last time the team earned a playoff berth. During his playing days, the Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980-83.
