Marie Meyer was born May 24, 1928, in Crofton, the eighth of nine children of John and Bertha (Gerlach) Reifenrath. Her family moved briefly to Madison, before settling in Columbus. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1946, and went to work at First National Bank where she met her future husband, Julian Meyer. They were married on April 5, 1951, at St. Bonaventure Church.
Marie was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated homemaker, raising their five children. Marie was an excellent seamstress and always assured her family had new holiday attire. She continued this tradition with her grandchildren, making them matching holiday pajamas. She was an adventurous cook, and was eager to try out new recipes when they frequently entertained. Marie looked forward to her two monthly Bridge Clubs with longtime friends. She loved preparing creative themes for Formal and Holiday Dance Club parties they attended at the Elk’s. As the only one of her siblings who remained in Nebraska, Marie and Julian’s home hosted numerous family reunions. Family vacations included spending time with Marie’s siblings who lived on both coasts. As her children married, Marie joyfully welcomed their spouses into the family. Later in life, Marie and Julian enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren across the country. After Julian’s passing, Marie relocated to Omaha where her youngest son, Jim, resides. Jim has been a constant and loving companion during the past nine years, keeping his mother engaged and connected with family.
Marie is survived by daughter, Tarris (Paul) Carter of Mesquite, Texas; grandson Alec (Esparanza) Carter of Mesquite, Texas, great-grandchildren Daniel and Evelyn; daughter, Carolyn (Gerald) Morrison of Castle Rock, Colorado, granddaughter Brooke (Matt) Sajovic of Denver, great-grandchildren Colton and Dane; son, Robert Meyer of Chicago, granddaughter Althea Meyer of Caseyville, Illinois; daughter, Barbara (Bob) Harrison of Gloucester, Massachusetts, granddaughter, Chloe Harrison of Boston; son, James Meyer of Omaha.
