Summer Creek, South Houston control their destiny in bid for district crown

December 28, 2018

Summer Creek head coach Kenneth Coleman has got the Bulldogs off to a hot start this season.

The Bulldogs, who are undefeated in district play, are tied for the No. 1 spot in the District 22-6A standings with South Houston, who is also 4-0 in district play.

Summer Creek (4-0) has big home wins against Humble and Atascocita — both playoff teams from last season.

The Bulldogs defeated Humble 64-60 and topped Atascocita 54-51 at home. They will have to travel to Atascocita and Humble for the second half of district play.

It was the first time in school history that the Bulldogs defeated the Eagles.

Atascocita saw its six-year home winning streak come to an end when South Houston defeated the Eagles 68-67 in a double-overtime thriller.

The Eagles (3-2) two district losses have been by a combined four points.

Atascocita currently sits in fourth place in district and are still looking to win its fifth-straight district title. The Eagles still have two matchups with Humble in addition to rematches with Summer Creek and South Houston.

Humble is looking to keep its 25-year playoff streak alive, and the Wildcats are in a good position in the third spot in district with the first half of district play wrapping up.

The Wildcats (3-1) only district loss is from Summer Creek.

Kingwood is 2-3 in district play and is tied with Dobie for fifth in district. The Mustangs are looking to make the playoffs for the first time under head coach Monte Cole.
