Federal agent jumps into Rio Grande to save drowning immigrant
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says earlier this week an agent jumped into the Rio Grande to save a drowning immigrant.
On Tuesday, the agents with Air and Marine Operations were patrolling the riverbank in a helicopter when they spotted a group of immigrants near La Joya.
According to a CBP news release, all of the immigrants but one jumped off a cliff into the Rio Grande and began swimming back to Mexico.
Agents saw a woman hesitant to jump in the water, but once she did they realized she could not swim.
With no one in the water helping the woman, one of the agents jumped from the helicopter and saved the drowning woman.
The woman was not hurt.
