On The Light Side
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ For many families, Christmas means a visit from Santa Claus, but for Jim and Joyce Koss, the holiday twice saw the stork come calling.
″It’s a serious coincidence,″ said the father of Emily Caroline Koss, who arrived Christmas Day at West Side Hospital in Nashville.
Emily’s 6-year-old sister Julia also was born Dec. 25.
Did the couple, both 33, plan the holiday births?
″Not at all. It just happened at that time,″ Mrs. Koss said.
Mrs. Koss said she has a 27-year-old nephew whose birthday is on Christmas as well.
Both of the Koss children likely will observe their birthdays a week before the holiday, she said.
″Usually you have to celebrate a little before Christmas because you have to separate the two,″ Mrs. Koss said.
XENIA, Ohio (AP) - Nurses at Greene Memorial Hospital scrambled room assignments for a day to make sure a couple could celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Nurses moved Guffrey Conley into the room of his wife, Susie, allowing them to hold hands and share a cake on their anniversary Friday.
Mrs. Conley, 68, underwent leg surgery Monday and her husband, who is 76, was hospitalized with the flu on the same day.
″It was so sweet of the hospital to provide the cake and punch,″ said the couple’s daughter, Shirley Trusty. ″They (the nurses) are as excited as we are.″
More than a dozen family members took part in the celebration. The couple’s gifts included a miniature portrait of them in their courtship days.
