Red-zone fumble keeps Washington State off the board in first quarter for sixth straight Apple Cup

November 24, 2018

PULLMAN – The Washington State Cougars were driving and looked like they were about to reverse a six-year trend of failing to score in the first quarter of the most recent Apple Cups.

Facing fourth-down-and one from the Washington 12-yard-line on Friday at Martin Stadium, WSU quarterback Gardner Minshew fumbled the snap and Washington recovered.

The failed WSU drive was set up by a Skyler Thomas interception of Jake Browning. But once Washington had the ball, the Huskies drove down and finished with a 5-yard touchdown by running back Myles Gaskin.

Washington led the Cougars 7-0 through the first quarter with heavy snow falling.
