Hofstra 67, Manhattan 65

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) _ Jon Yarger scored a tip-in at the buzzer to give Hofstra a 67-65 victory over Manhattan in the final of the Hofstra Classic Saturday night.

John Bilello missed a 20-foot jumper with a second to play, and Yarger got the tip-in for the victory.

Leroy Allen led the Flying Dutchmen, 3-2, with 20 points, and Steve Rebholz, who was named MVP of the tournament, followed with 15.

Billy Wheeler had a game-high 25 points for the Jaspers, 2-3, who led 31-27 at halftime. Brett Holmdahl followed with 17 for Manhattan.

Hofstra opened the second half with a 16-6 spurt to move in front 43-37 as Frank Walker led the way with two three-point baskets and a jump shot. The Japsers tied the score 65-65 on two foul shots by Ed Lawson with 17 seconds to play.

Franklin & Marshall beat winless Colgate 72-71 in the consolation game. Colgate is 0-4 and has lost 23 in a row over two seasons.
