Fire Department Leaders Visit Nuclear Power Plant

May 4, 2019

Chiefs from four area fire departments recently visited Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant as part of an ongoing training initiative. Fire chiefs toured the plant and met with the station’s fire brigade to share ideas and best practices. Representatives from the departments, all of whom are nationally certified fire instructors from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, serve as instructors who continually train Susquehanna’s fire brigade. They periodically meet with Susquehanna’s on-site fire brigade to offer training using various scenarios within the plant and develop best practices to continually strengthen their joint emergency plan. This visit included tours of the station’s turbine deck and reactor building and review of equipment and practices associated with these areas.
