FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — The beast has come out at Bethpage Black in the final round of the PGA Championship. Before runaway leader Brooks Koepka (KEHP’-kuh) teed off in the afternoon, there were 26 double bogeys or higher. In the third round, when conditions got tougher as the wind picked up, there were 31 total _ all doubles.

MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara threw a two-hitter in a pitching duel with Noah Syndergaard, and the Miami Marlins beat the reeling New York Mets 3-0 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep. Alcantara struck out eight, walked one and needed only 89 pitches for the Marlins’ first complete game shutout since Edinson Volquez tossed a no-hitter against Arizona in June 2017. The Mets have now lost five in row.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — There’s word that the New Orleans Pelicans have hired Nets assistant general manager Trajan Langdon to serve as general manager under new executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin. That’s what a person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press. Langdon has served as Nets assistant GM since 2016 and has helped rebuild Brooklyn into a squad that qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs as a sixth seed this season after finishing last in the East two seasons earlier.

BOSTON (AP) — Bruins captain Zdeno Chara (zuh-DAY’-noh CHAH’-rah) was back on the ice today, three days after missing Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals with an undisclosed injury. Chara skated before the team’s first practice since winning the Eastern Conference title. The Bruins will play the winner of the St. Louis-San Jose series in the Stanley Cup Final, which starts May 27.

ROME (AP) — Rafael Nadal has pulled off a win on clay, just as he heads to the French Open next weekend. After losing in the semifinals of three straight clay-court tournaments, Nadal won his ninth Italian Open today. He beat his longtime rival Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
