ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) _ Dr. Jack Kevorkian and an associate were arrested Thursday after taking a body to a hospital here.

The assisted-suicide advocate and Dr. Georges Reding were arrested after dropping off the body of a 26-year-old California man at 10:23 p.m. at William Beaumont Hospital, spokeswoman Collette Stimmell said.

Royal Oak police would not immediately comment on the arrest.

Two officers who were at the hospital on unrelated business ``went out to speak with Dr. Kevorkian when they observed he was there delivering the body ... and that led to their arrest,'' Stimmell said. ``There was pushing and shoving.''

Kevorkian and Reding arrived at the hospital with the man in the back seat of a car, Stimmell said. Kevorkian told hospital staffers the man was a ``traumatic quadriplegic,'' she said.

WDIV-TV reported the men were taken to the city jail.

Kevorkian did not answer his home phone late Thursday. Kevorkian attorney Geoffrey Fieger did not immediately return a phone message and attorney Michael Schwartz' phone was busy.

Kevorkian has admitted to helping more than 100 people commit suicide since 1990.
