CONTACT Rape Crisis Center gearing up for its 8th ‘Under the Stars’ fundraiser
HUNTINGTON — CONTACT Rape Crisis Center is gearing up for its 8th annual “Under the Stars” fundraiser event, set to take place on Saturday, April 13, at Marshall University’s Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre. Take a trip around the world with this year’s “Island Hopping” theme, featuring wine and small bites from various exotic destinations.
Guests will be treated to cuisine from the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and Mediterranean courtesy of area restaurants. WSAZ anchor Tim Irr once again is set to serve as master of ceremonies. Huntington native Brad Goodall, from the local band Ona, and 21 at the Frederick’s Mike Campbell will provide the music. The evening also includes door prizes and over 40 silent auction items.
The silent auction is one of the most anticipated features of the night. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of themed baskets and goodies, as well as two extravagant vacation getaways. Examples of prizes include a $1,000 gift card to ACE Adventure Resort, a picnic on a Pontoon (a free 4-hour pontoon ride equipped with all your picnic essentials), and a yoga sampler including free yoga sessions, a 6-piece Sivan yoga set, and spiritual journals to help guide you through the highs and lows in life. If that’s not enough to pique your interest, how about a 7-9 night stay at the Pineapple Beach Club in Antigua? Or a 5-Star, seven night adventure in Panama? All of the above, and more, are up for grabs.
The annual “Under the Stars” fundraiser enables CONTACT to continue to expand its free and confidential advocacy services to children and adults who have experienced sexual assault or stalking. Last year’s event raised nearly $50,000 to support victim advocates who provided 2,560 services to 662 survivors and their families in a six-county area of southwestern West Virginia -- Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, and Wayne counties.
CONTACT’s advocacy services include: a 24-hour crisis hotline; accompaniment at local hospitals, with law enforcement, and in court system; referrals for counseling or other needs; and a primary prevention program for school-aged children. Our Prevention Education reached over 600 students through more than 40 presentations last year, and the needs keep growing! CONTACT now provides support to children and families in three Child Advocacy Centers.
Cabell Huntington Hospital is the Presenting Sponsor for this year’s Under the Stars. Tickets are $75 each and are available at www.contacthuntington.com or by calling 304-523-3447. For more information about CONTACT Rape Crisis Center, visit www.contacthungtington.com, or call 304-523-3447
