WASHINGTON (AP) _ Rescue crews continued their search today for the body of a demolition worker believed buried in the rubble of a collapsed seven-story parking garage in downtown Washington.
One wing of the structure, three blocks from the White House, collapsed on Sunday while being demolished and worker Basilio Barrios, 36, of suburban Silver Spring, Md., was trapped beneath at least 10 tons of concrete, fire officials said.
Authorities said two other workers escaped on their own and a third was freed a short time later by firefighters. The workers said they were doing routine demolition work on the second floor of the garage when the structure collapsed without warning.
The building originally had nine stories, but two had already been removed.
A police dog was brought in to help in the search for the victim.
