GIRLS BASKETBALL: Hawks hammer Lake Havasu

January 9, 2019

The Lake Havasu girls hung close with one of the top teams in the state, but couldn’t keep pace as the game carried on, falling 63-29 at Yuma Gila Ridge on Tuesday.

The Hawks operated in platoons, throwing waves of talent at Havasu throughout the game. To counter, the Knights ran a zone, but fell victim to a hot-shooting team from deep.

“We picked our battles,” Havasu coach Karen Rockwell said. “We didn’t make shots and the other team did.

“It was competitive, they hung in there. It was the best game (Havasu’s girls) played this season.”

Matisun Skirvin had 9 points, Mary Jack had 8 and Kilee Green 6 for the Knights in the loss.
