50 things to do this weekend, May 17, 18 and 19

Linda Tuccio-Koonz, Andrew DaRosaMay 16, 2019

“The Sound of Music” and “Godspell” are just two of the great shows opening this weekend in Connecticut. There’s a brand new one, too, called “Hi, My Name is Ben,” based on the inspirational true story of a remarkable man who lived in New York City. This weekend also marks the return of The Bruce Museum’s annual Outdoor Crafts Festival, Saturday and Sunday in Greenwich.

Of course there’s music and comedy, as well, but first let’s get to the theatrical productions. “The Sound of Music” runs Friday through Sunday at The Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford, while “Godspell” is onstage at Ivoryton Playhouse all weekend, and continues “Day by Day” through the middle of June. Also all weekend, that new musical we mentioned is at The Terris Theatre in Chester. “Hi, My Name is Ben,” which tells the tale of a man who never spoke a word, but changed the lives of everyone around him, runs through June 9. (Interestingly, it was inspired by an obituary; the playwrights then interviewed people who had known “Ben.”)
