WYOMING-PARTY REGISTRATION

CHEYENNE _ An all-Republican Wyoming legislative committee defeated a GOP-backed bill Tuesday that would have prevented voters from changing party affiliation in the months before a primary, but the panel advanced a Democrat’s proposal to institute ranked-choice voting. The party-affiliation bill sought to discourage people from switching parties in order to vote in another party’s primary. ROCKIES SNOW

DENVER _ Blowing snow shut down highways Tuesday on Colorado’s Eastern Plains, stranding truckers and other travelers at the edge of the Denver area. A line of trucks and cars stretched about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) along Interstate 70 at midday at the beginning of a road closure in suburban Aurora as strong winds blew relatively light snow across the highway, lowering visibility. Eastbound I-70, the main east-west route across the state, was closed for nearly 185 miles (298 kilometers) to Goodland, Kansas. The interstate was reopened Tuesday afternoon. MLS-RAPIDS-HOWARD

Colorado Rapids and former U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard says this season will be his last in Major League Soccer. Howard made the announcement on social media Tuesday, a day after the Rapids reported to training camp. “I’m greatly looking forward to kicking off the 2019 MLS season, as it will be my LAST. There will be plenty of time for sentiment later. For now, I am going to enjoy every minute. And as I’ve always done, compete hard and help lead the Rapids with the sole purpose of winning,” he posted to Twitter. By Anne M. Peterson. SENT: 420 words, photo.

NUGGETS-THE GUMSLINGER

DENVER _ Monte Morris restored his long-range jumper to mint condition. The Great Spearmint Gum Wrapper Experiment worked. Last summer, the Denver Nuggets backup point guard went through shooting drills with a wrapper from a stick of gum — mostly spearmint, he said — wedged between his thumb and index finger on his guide hand. It was a way to find a more reliable release. By Pat Graham. SENT: 750 words, photos.
