First Environmentalist Party Set Up
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) _ A group of physicians, lawyers, journalists, and other professionals announced Monday the establishment of Turkey’s first environmentalist party.
The chairman of the party, professor Celal Ertug, told reporters that the party will be known as Yesiller - The Greens Party.
Ertug, for decades an advocate of measures to clean up air pollution in Turkey’s large cities, said the party emblem will be a globe within a sunflower and a turtle on top of the globe.
The Greens Party joins eight other political parties in Turkey.
