New York Assembly speaker takes summer tour to Staten Island
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The speaker of the New York state Assembly is continuing his annual summer tour of the state with a visit to Staten Island.
Bronx Democrat Carl Heastie has made a habit of using the legislature’s summer break to visit different corners of the state.
On Tuesday he’ll visit a newly opened retail complex and a local high school. He’ll also make stops at Snug Harbor and pay a visit to the Bayonne Bridge which connects Staten Island to New Jersey.
Heastie says the trips help him better understand the challenges and opportunities facing the state’s different regions. So far this summer he’s visited Poughkeepsie, Long Island and the North Country.
