Wakeman seeks rappellers People’s tower

September 6, 2018

BRIDGEPORT — Watch some brave souls — including a few local celebrities — rappel down the side of the People’s United Bank tower downtown for a good cause.

And there is still time to join them on that sixteen story journey.

Next weekend’s event is sponsored by the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club and run by the Over the Edge organization.

Sixty four individuals signed up, raising $1,000 to qualify with the proceeds going to the clubhouses and afterschool outreach programs. There are openings for a dozen more, said Gina Luczaj, Wakeman’s director of special events.

Sept. 15 is for set up, Luczaj said, with some celebrities — including former Major League baseball star-turned-Sacred Heart University Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Valentine — climbing down the People’s building from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Then on Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., the main participants will rappel to the street in groups of about ten per hour.
