Vermont offering blood tests for people impacted by PFOAs

August 1, 2018

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Department of Health says it will provide blood tests for people who may have been affected by chemical contaminants in the Bennington area.

The tests will check for PFOA levels, and the Legislature has made funding available for the program. The Bennington Banner reports private water wells in the Bennington area had detections of PFOA contamination far above the safe drinking standard in 2016 testing.

The blood test cannot tell if a person’s exposure to PFOA will cause health problems in the future or if a health problem was caused by PFOA.

There is no cost to participants for the blood draw, laboratory analysis and report.
