Point Park honors 1970s baseball teams
Point Park University honored more than 50 former baseball players from the 1970s at a reunion on Sunday.
School Hall of Famers Ed Haberle, Dave Duncan, Joe Fiori and John Stuper, who pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, were among the players who were present.
The Pioneers posted a .765 winning percentage during the decade. They were a power in the NAIA, finishing third twice (1974 and 1979) and posting a 228-70 record. Frank Gustine coached the Pioneers in the early 70s before Barry Hanburger took over in 1975.
Under Hanburger the Pioneers made three-consecutive (1978, 1979, 1980) NAIA World Series trips.
