60-test referee Steve Walsh retires from officiating
SYDNEY (AP) — The Australian Rugby Union says New Zealand-born referee Steve Walsh has retired from all forms of match officiating to pursue business interests.
The ARU said on Friday the 43-year-old Walsh refereed in 60 tests after making his test officiating debut when Argentina played France in 1998. He was a touch judge at the 1999 Rugby World Cup won by Australia, and also refereed 11 matches overall at the 2003, 2007 and 2011 World Cups.
Walsh says, “I have lived my dream, and I am truly grateful for every experience that I have had in rugby ... it’s been an incredible journey.”
