Mets-inspired ponies put up wins at NYC horse racing track
NEW YORK (AP) — Things are looking up for the New York Mets — at least at the local horse racing track.
Two thoroughbreds with names riffing on the baseball team were winners Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens.
Letzgometz won the fourth race, covering six furlongs in 1:13.
Syndergaard , sharing a name with Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, won the seventh race, covering the same distance in 1:11.
It was Letzgometz’s first win in two races and Syndergaard’s third win in 10 starts. Both horses are based in New York.
Noah Syndergaard finished the 2018 season with 13 wins and 4 losses and a 3.03 earned-run average.
The righthander nicknamed “Thor” has been attracting trade interest in the offseason.
