Photo of Trump supporters’ T-shirts from Ohio rally goes viral

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A picture of two Ohioans in matching shirts at a Donald Trump rally last weekend has caught fire on the Internet.

The cleveland.com photo features James T. Alicie and Richard M. Birchfield, two friends from Delaware, Ohio, in T-shirts saying “I’d Rather Be A Russian Than A Democrat” during Trump’s rally in southern Delaware County on Saturday evening.

The picture of the two, posted Saturday night after the rally, quickly went viral, circulating around Twitter and Facebook and appearing on the front page of Reddit.com.

Asked about their shirts, Alicie – who did most of the talking – said he didn’t understand why Trump is getting so much criticism about Russia when Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama weren’t similarly scrutinized.

“Russia would be a lot better off being our friend and ally than an enemy,” Alicie said.

Asked what he would tell Democrats, Alicie said, “To jump on board this train and give him a chance.”

To that, Birchfield said: “Amen.”

Both Alicie and Birchfield said they intended to vote in Tuesday’s special election for Troy Balderson, the 12th Congressional District Republican nominee that Trump touted during his rally.

“Anytime I pull the lever, it’s going to be a Republican,” Alicie said.

Alicie said that he voted for Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the 2016 GOP presidential primary, but he was disappointed that the governor didn’t go to the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland for Trump’s nomination.

“It broke my heart, and I thought it was really wrong not giving support,” Alicie said. “I wouldn’t vote for Kasich to clean the latrine now.”

Model and author Chrissy Teigen used the photo of the men to troll her anti-Trump dad on his birthday. Other celebrities also weighed in on Twitter:

T Shirts reveal catchy new slogan. No longer Americans. https://t.co/Q7WtLHXlxj— Mia Farrow (@MiaFarrow) August 6, 2018

I’m sure Putin would be happy to have them. Gullible consumers of nationalist propaganda are always welcome in Putin’s Russia. https://t.co/nM5yXpB4ZJ— Garry Kasparov (@Kasparov63) August 5, 2018
