Columbia Football Star Wazevich Dies
NEW YORK (AP) _ Bill Wazevich, a leading receiver for Columbia’s football team in the 1960s, died Thursday. He was 54.
Wazevich, who holds Columbia’s record for receiving yards in a game, died at his home in Cleveland, said Columbia University spokesman Bill Steinman.
Wazevich had 214 yards receiving against Princeton in 1967 and was a favorite receiver of Marty Domres, who later played in the AFL and NFL.
As a sophomore in 1967, Wazevich had 45 receptions for 593 yards. He had 102 catches for 1,336 yards during his three-year Columbia career.
In recent years, he had been a broker for Merrill Lynch.
