San Antonio council chooses former colleague to lead East Side district
After hours of interviewing three candidates for the vacant District 2 seat, the City Council on Thursday voted 7-3 to appoint a former councilman to serve the East Side for the next several months.
The council tapped former District 8 Councilman Art Hall, who served two terms from 2003 to 2007, to complete the unexpired term of Councilman William “Cruz” Shaw.
The seat opened when Shaw resigned to accept an appointed judicial position at the Bexar County Courthouse.
Hall said he intends to serve only until voters choose the next District 2 council member and doesn’t plan to run for the seat, which is up for election May 4..
On Wednesday, the council reviewed 13 candidates and narrowed the list to three. The other two considered were Jada Sullivan, a disabled veteran, and Aubrey Lewis, the Denver Heights Neighborhood Association president.
