Wizards’ Hayes Re-Injures Knee
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Wizards guard Jarvis Hayes fractured his right kneecap again and will be out indefinitely.
Hayes was diagnosed by team doctors on Monday. He was sent home from the Wizards’ West Coast road trip Saturday after feeling discomfort during the first quarter of Friday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
He sustained a similar injury against Sacramento on Feb. 27 last season and missed the rest of the season, including the Wizards’ playoff run. The 2003 first-round draft pick returned for training camp this season, but missed most of the team’s preseason games when his knee became sore.
Hayes began the season as a reserve but soon worked his way into the starting lineup. He started 13 of 21 games, averaging 9.3 points, before missing Sunday night’s loss at Portland.
The Wizards continued their road trip Monday night in Seattle.
