Steve Carell, ‘The Office’ creator reunite for Netflix comedy based on Trump’s ‘Space Force’
Steve Carell and “The Office” creator Greg Daniels are teaming back up for a Netflix comedy show based on President Trump’s proposal for a United States Space Force.
“Space Force” is described as a workplace comedy following the men and women who make up Mr. Trump’s proposed sixth military branch that would oversee operations in outer space, The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday.
Mr. Carell will reportedly star in the series and executive produce alongside Mr. Daniels and 3 Arts’ Howard Klein, who also worked on NBC’s “The Office,” Netflix’s most-watched acquired series.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Mr. Carell’s salary for “Space Force” will likely surpass $1 million per episode.
Netflix on Wednesday released a teaser for the series, which is set to the “2001: A Space Odyssey” theme song.
“On June 18, 2018, the federal government announced the creation of a 6th major division of the United States Armed Forces,” the teaser reads. “The goal of the new branch is to ‘defend satellites from attack’ and ‘perform other space-related tasks’...or something. This is the story of the men and women who have to figure it out.”
The release date for “Space Force” has not yet been announced.
