Loyola Marymount 70, Seattle 55
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Jim Williamson had 17 points and six assists and sparked a 12-0 Loyola Marymount run in the second half Sunday as the Lions beat Seattle 70-55.
Kenny Hotopp scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Lions before leaving the game with 16:58 remaining due to a sprained ankle.
Hotopp’s status is doubtful for Loyola’s game against San Diego State on Tuesday night, the school said.
Tim Kennedy added 13 points and Ben Ammerman and Ime Oduok each had nine rebounds, leading the Lions (2-0) to a 51-42 advantage in that department.
Justin White led Seattle (1-5) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kenny Bush and Mark Stottlemyre added nine points each for the Chieftains.
Seattle, an NAIA school, made just 20 of its 70 field goal attempts (28.6 percent), but trailed by just six points with six minutes to play. That’s when the Lions went on their 12-0 run, which made it 69-51. Williamson scored five of the 12 points.
Loyola finished with 22 field goals in 51 attempts (43.1 percent). The Lions were 23-of-38 from the free throw line while the Chieftains were just 8-of-12.
Both teams had problems from beyond the 3-point line _ Seattle was 7-of-25 and Loyola was 3-of-12.
