Police: Homicide investigation leads to shooting
MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a man who was being investigated in connection with a fatal stabbing at an Arizona nail salon is dead following a shooting involving police.
Mesa Police Sgt. Diana Williams said detectives were following up on a lead Friday when the shooting happened. She did not immediately release the suspect’s name.
Williams said as officers were approaching the man, they saw a knife in his hand as he moved toward them. After beanbag rounds failed to stop him, one officer fired his gun, hitting the suspect.
Authorities say they’re still trying to determine if the man was the person responsible for the Feb. 2 attack at the nail salon. In that case, video surveillance shows a man entering the business, where he then fatally stabbed a woman and fled.
