Moneta Wells, 88, of Kankakee, departed this life on Thursday (Nov. 15, 2018) from Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Caldwell Chapel AME Zion Church in Kankakee. The Rev. John Noble is the officiant. Interment will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory, Kankakee.
Moneta was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Elkhart, Ind., the daughter of Cleveland and Roberta Irving. She graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1950. She then married James Wells in 1951 and later moved to Kankakee. He preceded her in death.
She retired from employment with the state of Illinois after working for more than 30 years as a mental health technician. She was a lifetime member of Caldwell Chapel AME Zion Church. Moneta loved to travel.
She leaves to cherish her memories her three grandchildren, Adero Wells, of Minnesota, Deandria Wells, of Kankakee, and James Harris, of Kankakee; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Otis (Dana) Irving and Robert (Mickey) Irving, all of Elkhart; three sisters, Gloria Jones, of Detroit, Ethel Cotton, of Flint, Mich., and Clara Irving, of Elkhart; and special friend, Ester Bogan, of Kankakee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Kenneth, Stephanie and Charlene; two brothers, Cleveland Jr. and David Irving; and three sisters, Louise Westmoreland, Clementine Irving and Janice Henderson.
