Leitzinger Wins Washington Trans-Am

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Polesitter Butch Leitzinger held off three-time and defending Trans-Am series champion Paul Gentilozzi to win the inaugural Capital Trans-Am 100 on Saturday.
Leitzinger, making only his seventh start in the series, held off the hard-charging Gentilozzi to win by 1.023 seconds on the 1.661-mile road course in the parking lots of RFK Stadium.
Leitzinger was driving a Chevrolet Corvette, while Gentilozzi stormed from the sixth starting spot in a Jaguar XKR.
Boris Said finished third in a Panoz Esperante, followed by Stuart Hayner, who started ninth in a Corvette. Next came Tony Ave in an Esperante and Johnny Miller in a Jaguar.
Randy Ruhl, Michael Lewis, Paul Fixx II and Jack Willes completed the top 10.
