This weekend ideal time to visit Iroquois County

August 24, 2018

With America’s third largest city and the unofficial capital of the Midwest just a short drive away, it’s understandable why many of us from these parts head to Chicago for weekend entertainment.

But plenty of other opportunities routinely exist, and this might just be a time for people who live north of the Iroquois County line to consider them.

Two wonderful hometown events will be held in Iroquois County this weekend as the Ashkum Lions Homecoming will be held Saturday and Sunday, and the Fried Green Tomato Festival will take place Saturday in the quaint village of Iroquois.

These might be small communities in terms of population, but they know how to celebrate in a big way. Quality musical entertainment, fun activities, friendly people and good food (if you have never ate fried green tomatoes, you don’t know what you’re missing) will be present at both places.

Why not enjoy an adventurous Saturday and visit one festival early in the day and the other later in the day? Or take in the Iroquois event Saturday before heading over to Ashkum Sunday?

Whichever way you choose, you’re bound to enjoy it. What’s more, you won’t arrive stressed out from driving through bumper-to-bumper traffic.
