Huntington St. Joe boys and girls sweep Fairland

HUNTINGTON — Two goals in each half put Huntington St. Joe past Fairland 4-1 in a boys soccer match Friday at the Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center.

Ethan Fleckenstein and Austin Wiles scored first-half goals for the Irish (5-6-1). Stewart Perry and Noah Compton completed the Irish scoring. Goalkeeper Deuce Vance made two saves.

Fairland’s goal was by Mason Fannin in the first half. Ben Ward made eight saves for the Dragons.

St. Joe is at home Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest against South Charleston.

WHEELERSBURG 6, MINFORD 1: Athan Temponeras scored three goals and Will Darling added two as the Pirates beat the Falcons.

Girls

HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 6, FAIRLAND 0: McKenzie Moran hit for three goals and Abi Hugh added two more Friday for St. Joe in a Friday shutout.

Laney Whitmore scored the other goal for St. Joe (13-2-0). Mina Smith had two assists and Moran had one.

St. Joe goalkeeper Samantha Richbart made four saves to protect the shutout. Fairland keeper Carson Bailey had a busy night with 18 saves.
