Police investigating pipe bomb near Pullman park
An apparent pipe bomb set up near a park in Pullman was diffused by police on Sunday.
The device was discovered next to a walking and biking path on the west side of City Playfields, which is located near the south entrance of Washington State University; It had been planted next to an electrical panel and there were signs of an attempt to light its fuse, according to a news release from the Pullman Police Department.
A passerby noticed the device at about 8 a.m. and called police, who secured the area, the release said. The Spokane Explosive Disposal Unit arrived at about 10: 10 a.m and rendered the device safe. The unit is comprised of Spokane police and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office personnel.
The bomb will be sent to a crime lab for examination, the release said.
An investigation is underway and police are not releasing additional information until Monday, said Katie Nelson, records specialist for the police department.
