Undated (AP) _ TOKYO (AP) - Former major leaguer Warren Cromartie hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning, his second of the game, to give the Yomiuri Giants a 6-4 Japanese League baseball victory over the Yakult Swallows Saturday night.

Cromartie, formerly with the Montreal Expos, slammed his first homer of the game in the eighth inning to tie the score 4-4. He now has 25 homers this season.


TOKYO (AP) - The Canada Universiad men’s volleyball team overcame Japan’s Asian Games team 11-15, 5-15, 15-13, 15-12, 15-5 in the opening match Saturday of a series of exhibition games in Japan.


KANAZAWA, Japan (AP) - Midori Wakaura bogeyed the last two holes but managed to score a 69 for a 139 total, taking a one-shot lead at the end of the second round of the $225,800 Hokuriku Queens’ Golf Tournament Saturday.

Michiko Yokoyama posted an eagle on the par-5 18th hole on her way to the day’s best score of 68. With a 140 total, she shared second spot with veteran Hisako Higuchi.

First-round leader Mitsuko Hamada shot a 75 for a 142 total, dropping to an eighth-place tie.

The tourney is being played over the 6,246-yard, par-72 layout of the Hakusan Country Club. First place is worth $38,700.


SHIGARAKI, Japan (AP) - David Ishii of the United States teamed up with Japan’s Hideto Shigenobu to shoot a bogey-free 62 for a 191 total and surged to the third-round lead of the $290,000 Acom Doubles Golf Tournament Saturday.

Saburo Fujiki and Yoshimi Niizeki combined for the day’s best score of 61 for a 192 total, to share second place with two other Japanese teams - Hajime Meshiai-Satoru Higashi and Isao Isozaki-Kosaku Shimada - on the 6,959-yard, par-72 Shigaraki Country Club course.

Each team counts its best score on each hole in the four-ball, stroke play competition.

The winning team will pocket $65,000 Sunday.
