Dallas-Valley View Title Game Moved To Sunday
Adversity. It is something coaches talk about and players try to prepare for. But it is how they overcome it that tells the real story. Take the Dallas football team for example. The Mountaineers were ready to play for the Class 4A district title on Friday night at Valley View, but Thursday, the game was pushed back a day due to the snow that to hit the area. After the snow hit, District 2 officials elected to move the game, again, to Sunday night at 7 p.m. Now, after being ready to play a game on Friday, then Saturday, and finally having to move the game to Sunday night, the Mountaineers will have to gear up and mentally prepare for the unique situation of playing on Sunday. Regardless, Dallas will be looking to avenge its only loss of the season, a 33-0 loss at home at the hands of Valley View in Week 8. Dallas had its semifinal game against Berwick last week moved to Saturday due to inclement weather, so battling adverse weather conditions is nothing new. Dallas head coach Rich Mannello is keeping the preparation part of things as business as usual. “It’s no different, we will play Monday morning if they tell us to,” Mannello said. “The kids will adjust to anything. It is not an issue at all. The kids are resilient. They have been adjusting since June weekly to adversity. All we did is talking about how to control the things we can control. We can only control what we do.” According to the Weather Channel, temperatures on Sunday will reach a high of 38 degrees in the afternoon with the chance of flurries or snow showers during the day. Sunday night the forecast is calling for clouds with rain and snow showers early, changing to rain showers later on. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. As far as the rest of the teams still playing in District 2, Lackawanna Trail will play Tri-Valley tonight at 7 p.m. in the Class A state playoffs at Scranton. Dunmore will play West Catholic this afternoon at 1 p.m. at Northern Lehigh, while at the same time Lakeland will play Scranton Prep for the Class 3A district at Scranton Memorial Stadium. Wallenpaupack will play Hollidaysburg today at 1 p.m. at Danville High School, while Delaware Valley had its Class 6A state playoff game against State College changed to Sunday at 2 p.m. at Danville High School.
