Kankakee police investigate apparent fatal hit-and-run accident
KANKAKEE — Police continue to investigate an apparent hit-and-run accident which claimed the life of Anthony Stewart II in Kankakee on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old Stewart was found laying in the road in the 200 block of North Chicago Avenue near East Oak Street at 1:38 a.m., according to Kankakee police.
Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene. The results of an autopsy performed Tuesday remain under investigation, pending toxicology reports, according to police.
The vehicle which hit Stewart has not been located.
Near the hit-and-run scene, officers found another man injured on the sidewalk. He suffered non-life threatening injuries from a battery and was taken to Presence St. Mary’s Hospital.
Investigators still are working to determine if the two incidents are related, police said.
